On "Point"

The latest art project we completed with Mrs.Roundy had to do with Pointillism. We focused on the painter Georges Seurat who used the Pointillism technique to create beautiful works of art. Here is one of his most famous paintings titled,
"Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte":

The Pointillism technique is where dots of paint are applied in a pattern to form an image. Knowing that Valentine's Day was just around the corner, Mrs. Roundy thought it would be a good idea to have us use the Pointillism technique to decorate a heart. After we learned about color theory and how mixing colors together can create new colors, we set off into creating our works of art!

Instead of paint and paint brushes, we used red, blue and yellow ink pads and erasers on pencils to apply our dots to the hearts. We found that when we mixed a red and yellow dot, we suddenly had orange! When a blue dot was stamped over a red dot, we then had a purple dot! We also found that if we mixed a blue dot with a yellow dot, we were left with green! It was quite amazing :)
We also tried mixing them all together and came out with a greyish brown. Afterward, we colored the outside of our hearts with colored pencils. Here is what they look like on the bulletin board outside of our classroom:

I hope everyone's week is on "point"!
